What we share with animals

A DIFFICULT test of one's moral character is to always look beyond difference and prejudice, and recognize the value of another. It is always easier to show kindness to one is who similar and to one who is like you, but the real test is to stand up to the rest of society and stick up for those who relate to you the least--those who you understand minimally.

Earthlings

Just an open ended question about the film "Earthlings" that Cineculture & The Undercurrent showed last night (Friday, May 18). Have any of you seen it? Any thoughts? I didn't come to that actual screening, but I did come for the Q&A (led by Joe, a.k.a. middleclassjoe) I only wish there was more time for the question and answer. The reason that I didn't see the film was becasue I already abstain from animal products, so watching a film that has such disturbing images, when the film wasn't going to convince me of anything new, seemed to be more pornography than education.

I can't truly say that I saw The Undercurrent/Cineculture's showing of Earthlings last night (Friday, May 18), but I did catch the Q&A. I saw about 15mins of it online (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1282796533661048967) earlier in the day. That was enough to tell me that there was no need to see it all the way through.
