Wonderful reading at Respite by the River!
I really enjoyed the reading out at the River Center on August 16! In addition to reading from Bloodvine, Aris Janigian also read from his upcoming novel (due sometime in 2008). At the close of his reading, the author entertained questions from the audience. He talked about how parts of his works were based on his family's experiences, and some of his family members weren't happy about his revealing "family secrets" in his book. He concluded, somewhat in jest, that if you want to make people happy, don't write!
The setting at the River Center was wonderful, too. We lucked out in that it was a relatively cool evening. We watched dragon flies and birds gliding in the breeze, and the outlines of the trees created striking scenery against the sunset. I was a little jealous of the people who had the foresight to bring food and wine with them!
I'm really looking forward to going to David Mas Masumoto's reading on September 20 as well as the readings from the new Highway 99 Anthology on October 18.
