What is PVC?

"PVC stands for processed vegan crap. You know the kind of awful stuff that comes in boxes and packages and has colored labels, big ads in veggie magazines and such. Usually PVC imitates PC (processed crap made from animal sources) in the form of fake meat and imitations of other items that vegans supposedly want to avoid. Many people believe that being vegan means that you go from consuming processed crap to processed vegan crap and suddenly you are a better person. True, you might be saving animals by consuming PVC but what about your own health, the health of the workers and farmers producing PVC and the health of the planet that results from producing and consuming pvc? Problem is most PVC is produced by the same people who produce PC and thus we are falling into the same trap of consumption, supporting the same problematic system, even if we choose to remove animal products from our diet."

veganism

i think that this goes straight to the heart of what veganism is, namely a life as close to being free from exploitation as is possible. it makes no sense for a vegan to refrain from animal products while exploiting human animals. add to that the resistance from some vegans to consider environmental concerns with regard to veganism. i think it steams from the desire not to confuse the exploiting animals with environmental concerns. if your reasons for veganism are environmental then you can excuse "green" exploitation of animals. the problem with this line of thinking, and not just with veganism, but with all radical philosophies, is that it fails to be radical. it fails to understand exploitation and the systemic nature of exploitation. so a vegan that is not against exploitation in all its forms is not a vegan at all. however, a radical who is not against exploitation in all its forms (believes that exploiting animals is just) needs to reconsider what it is they are fight for and/or against.
