Fresno's Paper for Arts, Entertainment, News, and Political Analysis
Submission Policy
The mission of our paper is to not only be informative, but to be discursive as well. For that reason, we want to be a paper that leans heavily toward argument rather than rhetoric. We want to be respectful to our readers; we realize that the viewpoints in our paper will cause some to fume and others to cheer. We want our readers to be challenged by what we write, but not offended by how we write. For that reason we ask our contributors to refrain from the use of profanity or otherwise patently offensive language in their writing.
We also realize that the notion of objectivity or the ideals of objective journalism are illusory and, more often than not, work to maintain the status quo rather than provide a challenge. As opposed to objective journalism, we strive for journalistic veracity and honesty. We realize that some stories are personal in the sense that they affect us deeply. For that reason, we welcome a narrative style of writing that may invoke emotion in our readers. A story that does not do so often is not worth telling. As we tell these stories, hopefully we will affect some change or at least prompt people to start talking. As such, the style in which you write is largely up to you; reasoned arguments can take many stylistic forms.
As for editorial practices, we hope to provide the writer with as free of an expressive outlet as is possible. Changes made to contributed pieces (if any) will mostly consist of editing for length, grammar and punctuation, style/flow, and fact checking. Any changes made will be shown to the author.
If the author wishes to use notes we ask that s/he use endnotes, and that s/he use the bracketed number [1] without superscript. All submissions should be in 11pt font, Times New Roman, single-spaced.
Please e-mail submissions as a Word document(.doc extension) to submissions@fresnoundercurrent.net
