CENTRAL VALLEY WATER BOARD ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE OFFICER PROPOSES FINES TO THREE DAIRIES IN GLENN COUNTY FOR WASTEWATER DISCHARGE

SACRAMENTO - Three Glenn County dairies face fines ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 for off-property wastewater discharge violations that occurred during February 2008.

The Assistant Executive Officer of the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board has issued an Administrative Civil Liability complaint to Nick Beglinger Dairy, Silveira Dairy, and Frank Mello Dairy for violations of Waste Discharge Requirements General Order for Existing Milk Cow Dairies.

The General Order for Existing Milk Cow Dairies was adopted by the Regional Board in May 2007 to ensure that existing dairies manage manure and manure wastewater in ways that protect surface and groundwater quality. In all three cases, manure wastewater flowed off-property and into drainages that discharge into the Sacramento River.

The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board is a California state agency tasked with preservation and enhancement of surface and groundwater quality. The Regional Water Board may consider the complaint at its regular public board meeting on September 11, 2008.
