Obama Appoints Bill Clinton President

Bob Maschi posting to the Blog for Peace and Freedom writes:

President-Elect Barack Obama continued his absorption of the former Clinton administration today by appointing Bill Clinton President of the United States. This development comes after Obama named a majority of former Clinton administration people to his transition team including Rahm Emanuel, Jacob Lew and Carol Browner. Fully 2/3 of his appointees, so far, have past connections to the Clinton administration including Hillary Clinton (recently named his Secretary of State).

The Fresno County Peace and Freedom Party was founded on November 4, 2004 with the appointment of a County Central Committee chairperson by the State Central Committee. Though individuals in Fresno County have been active in the Peace and Freedom Party since its formation, it is unknown if there was any formal organization here prior to that date.

CVPPAC Redefines Progressivism

The Central Valley Progressive Political Action Committee (CVPPAC) has released its list of endorsements for the June 3, 2008 Primary election and in the process has redefined the term progressive.

Following on the heels of its 2006 endorsement of Margaret Mims for Fresno County Sheriff, the CVPPAC continues to break ground towards constructing a new model for progressivism in the San Joaquin Valley.

Ok, San Joaquin Valley Progressives, it's time to get your act together.

Ok, San Joaquin Valley Progressives, it's time to get your act together.

The way we get the word out about events is inconsistent, unproductive and inefficient. Notifications are not reaching the widest possible audience and our ability to build a broad left movement in this area is suffering as a result.

Will there soon be an alternative to jury duty?

If you really would rather not perform jury duty but you would like a few extra bucks in your pocket, then there just may be something coming down the road that may be of interest to you.

Progressives and Universal Suffrage

Liberals who choose to identify themselves as political progressives overwhelmingly fail the test when it comes to suffrage—the right to vote—and its application to non-citizens.

In the San Joaquin Valley where the percentage of non-citizens represents a significant portion of the general population, the denial of the vote is a discriminatory practice without justification. It exposes a propensity for the continuation of some of the worst aspects of the current social and political system—the perpetuation of racial and economic privilege being the most prominent.

The Struggle for Justice

Behind the move to initiate public oversight of Fresno's police department through the creation of an Independent Police Auditor is an underlying principle that is more profound than the call for equality and justice.

It is important to recognize that within a system that promotes racism to divide a community, the call for equality will fall upon deaf ears and the struggle for justice will never cease because full equality and true justice will never be realized there.
