Ok, San Joaquin Valley Progressives, it's time to get your act together.
Posted March 14th, 2008 by crockfordOk, San Joaquin Valley Progressives, it's time to get your act together.
The way we get the word out about events is inconsistent, unproductive and inefficient. Notifications are not reaching the widest possible audience and our ability to build a broad left movement in this area is suffering as a result.

Progressives and Universal Suffrage
Posted December 29th, 2007 by crockfordLiberals who choose to identify themselves as political progressives overwhelmingly fail the test when it comes to suffrage—the right to vote—and its application to non-citizens.
In the San Joaquin Valley where the percentage of non-citizens represents a significant portion of the general population, the denial of the vote is a discriminatory practice without justification. It exposes a propensity for the continuation of some of the worst aspects of the current social and political system—the perpetuation of racial and economic privilege being the most prominent.
The Struggle for Justice
Posted December 27th, 2007 by crockfordBehind the move to initiate public oversight of Fresno's police department through the creation of an Independent Police Auditor is an underlying principle that is more profound than the call for equality and justice.
It is important to recognize that within a system that promotes racism to divide a community, the call for equality will fall upon deaf ears and the struggle for justice will never cease because full equality and true justice will never be realized there.

A Small but Important Victory for Free Speech and Political Organizations
Posted November 28th, 2007 by crockfordNovember 28, 2007 - Today, the Peace and Freedom Party - with the assistance of the Greater Fresno Area Chapter of the ACLU - won a small but important victory for free speech and political organizations. The Fresno County Public Library has been continually denying the Peace and Freedom Party the right to use library facilities to hold its general meetings. The denial cited a Fresno County ordinance against using its facilities for campaign or political activity in connection with any election.
